Have you tossed and turned at night, staring at the clock counting the hours you have before you have to get up? Yeah, me too. I'm the WORST sleeper ever.
I've fought sleep my entire life. My Mom has told me stories about how she had to hold my hands, fingers, toes, and feet when she put me down for a nap because I would wiggle them. I guess that was my super annoying attempt to fight sleep. If I were my mom, I probably would have smothered me with a pillow. Ha.
Fast forward to 40+ years later..my mind still races. I'm not a hyper person, I don't have ADHD, I love the pause, the quiet, the stillness...but I CANNOT shut off my brain. The moment I lay down..it never fails. it races. Sound familiar? Ugh, it's so frustrating. I WANT to sleep..but apparently my mind just isn't ready.
Try a Pillow & Room Sleep Mist
So I've started using a pillow and room mist (sharing DIY recipe below) that's been helping me fall and stay asleep longer. PLUS, I get to upcycle empty spray bottles too. Basically, a pillow mist is something you spray onto your pillow which gives you a beautiful aromatherapy experience to promote sleep.
Bonus Way to Upcycle Empty Bottles
Ever wonder what to do with all of your empty Me Time jars and bottles? Sure you could toss them in the trash (please don't), recycle them curbside (better), return them (if you're local), or drop them off a store or plant that takes recycling (that's great) but you can always reuse and upcycle them (BEST).
DIY Pillow Mist with Adaptogen Oils
Here's 1 way to upcycle empty Phyto Tonic, Nourish Me, Wander bottles AND sleep better. (It's a multi-tasking solution to 2 problems..even better, right?!) You know how I like multi-taskers.
I love using lavender and sweet orange because they're adaptogens. Adaptogenic plants basically create balance in the body giving the nervous system exactly what it needs. When you combine two adaptogens, they have synergic effect working better together.

Makes 4 oz of pillow spray
1. Rinse out your empty bottles first, removing the label if you like.
Gift Tip: Save up a few bottles to create a few pillow and room mists to gift or make one for each bedroom. It's a great sleep ritual for your kids too.
2. Add 1/2 cup of vodka into bottle.
The vodka will act as the preservative and solubilize the essential oils. Solubilize is a fancy way of saying disperse a insoluble ingredient throughout formula.
3. Add your favorite blend of essential oils at a 3% dilution which is roughly 75 drops to 4 oz of carrier.
Since this is NOT going to be sprayed on the body, the dilution is safe.
